BlaBlaCar going to the Europas, and more!
We’re celebrating BlaBlaCar's nomination for the Ashden Award for Sustainable Travel, the Red Herring Europe Award, and the Europas People's Choice. Indeed, the whole, fast-growing, international team will be heading to Berlin for the Europas ceremony in January, where we’ll also be toasting the recent launch of BlaBlaCar Poland, Portugal and Benelux and kicking off another year of exciting expansion.
Frédéric Mazzella, founder and superhero, at TEDx Paris
Frédéric was recently invited to speak at TEDx to announce some pretty world-changing news: there’s a new superhero in town... Forget Superman. Please welcome Trustman! Trustman is freeing people across the world to create more value, through online exchanges based on trust (like BlaBlaCar). Such was Trustman’s success (nothing less than a standing ovation), that he’s been advance booked for LeWeb Paris. You can follow Trustman's adventures on Twitter.
BlaBlaCar: best sustainable start-up
In November, BlaBlaCar won Idea Idol, the sustainable start-up battle organised by the guys at Green Strategy, a leading UK green business think-tank. The jury said: “the BlaBlaCar community is increasing the efficiency of road transport, saving money on travel and reducing environmental impact. The crowd loved the simplicity of the idea, the ease in which it scales and the fact it draws on using-up excess capacity within an existing system.”
Nicolas Brusson, founder and disruptor, at Dublin Web Summit
We were all a-glow to see Nicolas on the main stage of the Dublin Web Summit in October, discussing the democratisation of travel with Alexia Tsotis and the founders of Tripping, Gidsy, Hotel Tonight and OneFineStay. The panelists shared how they are leveraging the Internet to solve efficiency problems in transport and tourism, pointing to the size and ubiquity of the problem and the massive business and consumer benefits of solving it.
BlaBlaCar gets major coverage in the press
The BlaBlaCar phenomenon has been getting picked up by news outlets of all sorts, from tech (don't miss us in December's Wired UK), to business (we were on the IHT front page on October 1st!) and general public (read the in-depth coverage by the Mail Online). It’s exciting to see that, whatever the angle, car sharing is being confirmed as a major social shift, as our 2.5 million members across Europe continue to save money by sharing their long distance rides on BlaBlaCar.
